Celebrating 20 Years of Impact: Graduating Communities in Ghana and Ethiopia

For over 60 years, Children Believe has been dedicated to breaking barriers and transforming the lives of children and communities around the world. Today, we reflect with pride and gratitude as we celebrate the graduation of two incredible programs in Ghana and Ethiopia—two decades of commitment, growth, and change that have shaped futures and created legacies.

Ghana Graduation: 20 Years of Hope and Transformation

In January, eight communities in the Gusheigu Municipality came together to celebrate 20 years of growth and change. The communities of Gusheigu, Tingdang, Sampemo, Zori, Kpahikpaba, Kutung, and Sukaya came together to honor 20 years of shared effort, growth, and progress. It was a time to celebrate the lives touched and the dreams realized. Through education, healthcare, child protection, and sustainable development, these communities have grown stronger, and their children have been given the chance to thrive.

The graduation ceremony in Gusheigu was a deeply emotional moment, marking the culmination of years of dedication and hope. From university graduates to teachers, nurses, skilled artisans, and entrepreneurs, the program has empowered these young people to take charge of their futures. Alongside this, Children Believe has built vital infrastructure—schools, water facilities, sanitation centers, and a Child Welfare Clinic—tools that will serve the communities for generations to come.

One of the most touching moments of the celebration was when 27 youth received vocational tools to begin their journeys in fields like carpentry, sewing, metalworks, glasswork, and hairdressing. These young individuals now carry the promise of their communities’ future. Naa Bapra Yakubu Abdulai, the paramount chief of the Kpatinga Traditional Area, expressed profound gratitude for the transformative work done, urging everyone to carry forward the spirit of hope and opportunity for generations yet to come.

Ethiopia Graduation: Akaki’s Journey of Empowerment

In February, Ethiopia will celebrate the completion of the Akaki sub-program, marking 20 years of transformative work. This milestone honours the children and families who have benefitted from improved education, healthcare, and opportunities for economic empowerment.

The program has helped children in Akaki reach new heights, and the upcoming graduation ceremony will highlight their incredible achievements. Many have gone on to pursue their dreams—whether by attending university, excelling in their vocational skills, or becoming leaders in their communities. These accomplishments reflect the enduring impact of sponsorship, as well as the strength and resilience of the Akaki community.
