Canada is celebrating gender equality this week, highlighting the work of trailblazers and activists working hard to do their part to make lasting, positive change in their communities. We’re proud to see children and youth we help learning how to live out these ideals in the countries where we work.
Women and girls are joining community groups and gaining the leadership skills and resources that bring opportunities to enhance their life choices. And, boys are joining their efforts. Bayanna, 15, president of a local child-led organization modelled after the Indian parliamentary system, is just one example. He’s committed to giving girls the right to go to school rather than be forced into early marriages. “I want the girls in my community to be educated and not to get married at 12 or 13,” he told us.
At Children Believe we help girls and boys enjoy equal opportunities by encouraging them to use their voice to make change. They do that by participating in decision-making at our program level and in community and government meetings, forums and more.
Send a girl to school today, and support her to chance to grow her skills so she can reach her dreams.
