If the world were to achieve gender equality, we would see social progress, sustainability, security for women and girls as well as economic growth. But we’re not there yet, and the following Global Goals’ YouTube video explains how challenges have mounted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Global Goals’ video shares a list of what it will take to get closer to reaching gender equality:
- more women in positions of power
- an urgent end to violence against women and girls
- sexual and reproductive health rights
- quality education for all girls
- women equal in law
- equal pay
- economic empowerment
And, changes will need to start in each nation around the world. “While women have made important inroads into political office across the world, their representation in national parliaments at 23.7 percent is still far from parity,” notes the United Nations in a statement on their Sustainable Development Goals website.
At Children Believe, we help both boys and girls access equal opportunities. In 2020/2021, more than 52,000 community members took part in efforts to reduce multiple forms of gender-discriminatory norms and practices.
Advocate for gender equality by empowering girls today.
