International Women’s Day highlights achievements and inequality

Children Believe joins with the world in working to create equal opportunities for everyone

It was a busy day yesterday as the world marked International Women’s Day.

“No country prospers without the engagement of women,” said Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, executive director of UN Women. “This is the only way we will get real societal change that incorporates women in decision-making as equals and benefits us all.”

Meanwhile, thousands of women gathered in Spain to protest against gender violence and campaign for equal rights. And, Malala signed a deal with Apple TV+ to “draw on her ability to inspire people around the world” by producing dramas, documentaries and more about women and children.

“I believe in the power of stories to bring families together, forge friendships, build movements, and inspire children to dream,” the Nobel laureate and women’s right’s activist is quoted as saying in the Apple press release.

The needs of woman around the world differ. At Children Believe, we work with the most vulnerable girls and young women, helping them access equal opportunities and develop knowledge, skills and confidence so they can speak up for their rights and grow to live and dream fearlessly.

About Children Believe

Children Believe works globally to empower children to dream fearlessly, stand up for what they believe in — and be heard. For 60+ years, we’ve brought together brave young dreamers, caring supporters and partners, and unabashed idealists. Together, we’re driven by a common belief: creating access to education — inside and outside of classrooms — is the most powerful tool children can use to change their world.

About Childfund Alliance

A member of ChildFund Alliance, Children Believe is part of a global network of child-focused development organizations working to create opportunities for children and youth, their families and communities. ChildFund helps nearly 23-million children and their families in 70 countries overcome poverty and underlying conditions that prevent children from achieving their full potential.
