5 reasons to sponsor a child today

By Jessica Nguyen

Find out how you can make a lasting difference in the lives of the most vulnerable around the world

Ask a sponsor why they give, and they’ll each tell you something different.

June Tink, a long-time donor, shared with us one of the reasons she was encouraged to keep sponsoring children. “I was touched when Azul, my former sponsored child in Paraguay, wrote a farewell letter thanking me for the support over the years and asking that I pass it on to another child,” she said.

Everyone chooses to sponsor a child for the first, second or even tenth time for different reasons. Below are just five examples of why you’ll feel good about sponsoring a child today.

1. You’ll help more than one child — you’ll help a community, too

When you sponsor a child, your contribution combines with other sponsors to benefit all children and their families in a community. You’ll provide a network of support through…

  • schools
  • health centres
  • community centres
  • child and youth groups

2. You’ll help build a child’s confidence and see your impact

Chart you sponsored child’s growth and opportunities through personal letters, progress updates, annual reports and our donor publication.

“The positive encouragement, trust and support gave me the courage to step into the unknown,” Muhila, a former sponsored child said of her sponsor, who encouraged her through letters. Today, Muhila is earning her bachelor of arts in English literature.

3. You’ll make holistic change, which will improve a child’s future for the better

Sponsors help tens of thousands of children break barriers — such as child marriage and child labour — holding them back so they can go to school and build a bright future. We lean on four strategies to make this possible, empowering children and young people to…

  • access healthcare, clean water and education
  • know their rights, so they can effect change and be better protected
  • enjoy equal opportunities whether they’re a boy or a girl
  • get involved and be active, engaged citizens

4. You’ll be part of a global community seeking to make our world better

The United Nations created the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015 as a blueprint for the world to improve human life and our planet by 2030. Despite making progress, billions still lack life’s basic essentials and human rights…

When you sponsor a child, you’re joining with the global community to…

  • contribute to ending poverty and hunger
  • promote good health and well-being
  • provide education
  • create gender equality

5. You’ll feel good knowing you’re improving lives

Sponsoring a child goes beyond a monthly gift. It means you’ll…

  • make a global, impactful connection with a child and their family
  • gain a perspective of a different world
  • build a child’s confidence
  • feel good knowing you’re helping children and families help themselves

Sponsor a child today.
