What’s being done to improve the imbalance of COVID-19 vaccine distribution globally?

COVAX could help vulnerable countries ramp up their vaccine supply

As COVID-19 vaccines continue to roll out globally, the United Nations reports that, although 700-million have benefited, developing countries have received just 0.2 percent of the supply.

“On average in high-income countries, almost one in four people has received a vaccine. In low-income countries, it’s one in more than 500,” says Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general, WHO.

The global initiative for COVID-19 vaccines, COVAX, aims to accelerate the production to meet the goal of distributing two-billion doses by the end of 2021. The initiative is being developed to also include cost-sharing with high-income countries so surplus vaccines can reach low-income countries.

At Children Believe, we remain committed to providing assistance in communities where we work to ensure the safety of children and families during the pandemic. Most recently, we’re supporting governments and agencies with vaccine rollouts to the most vulnerable.

About Children Believe

Children Believe works globally to empower children to dream fearlessly, stand up for what they believe in — and be heard. For 60+ years, we’ve brought together brave young dreamers, caring supporters and partners, and unabashed idealists. Together, we’re driven by a common belief: creating access to education — inside and outside of classrooms — is the most powerful tool children can use to change their world.

About Childfund Alliance

A member of ChildFund Alliance, Children Believe is part of a global network of child-focused development organizations working to create opportunities for children and youth, their families and communities. ChildFund helps nearly 23-million children and their families in 70 countries overcome poverty and underlying conditions that prevent children from achieving their full potential. We work to end violence against children; provide expertise in emergencies and disasters to ease the harmful impact on children and their communities; and engage children and youth to create lasting change and elevate their voices in decisions that affect their lives.
