We believe girls and boys deserve equal opportunities, but in the communities we work it takes time to change generations-old cultural traditions, such as early, forced marriage.
So, we help girls develop knowledge, skills, confidence and leadership skills through clubs and children’s groups, and we encourage them to participate in decision-making within their community, at government meetings and at councils and forums.
We also help educate their parents, guardians and boys and men through awareness campaigns about human rights, gender equality and how to get help.
This last step is so important to creating a community that’s ready for change. We want all girls and boys to feel like they can do anything, which is why we were moved by the video below showing how children can still fall into gender stereotypes, based on their value system.
