Many people value quality education. Yet a recent report by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) shows governments around the world need to invest more to ensure every child has a chance to learn, realize their rights and reach their dreams.
Although some children are in school, it’s still difficult for then to grasp the basic reading and math skills, reports UNICEF. “We are failing children. Too many education systems around the world are investing the least in those children who need it the most,” explained Catherine Russell, executive director at UNICEF in a statement.
The report, Transforming Education with Equitable Financing, outlined four recommendations to ensure children have quality education resources to thrive in school. They are as follows:
- Unlocking pro-equity public financing to education
- Prioritizing public funding to foundational learning
- Monitoring and ensuring equitable education aid allocation
- Investing in innovative ways to deliver education
