Does CCFC only support Christian children?
Vikky: We help children regardless of their faith. Our work does not involve evangelism. Children are selected for sponsorship based on how easily they can access basic needs — not because of their ethnicity, religion or culture.
I’m sponsoring a child. Why should I send a special gift for Easter, Christmas or his/her birthday?
Annie: For many children in vulnerable communities, birthdays and special occasions may pass with little or no fanfare. Your gift will be cherished for many years to come. Sponsors often give money for colouring books, new clothes and even college tuition.
What should I write about in letters to my sponsored child?
Amanda: Your message can be simple and short. Tell your child about your family, work or the place where you live. Photos or postcards are helpful to describe daily life. A few words of encouragement can mean a lot.
Can I fund a project?
Liz: Yes. Transform Communities is Christian Children’s Fund of Canada’s (CCFC) program that lets you invest in projects with clear start and end dates and measurable outcomes we report. Funding is desperately needed for projects that address education, clean water and sanitation, health and nutrition as well as sustainable economic growth. We’re happy to match a project to your interests and passions.
How can I make a bequest?
Laura: Making a gift through your Will is one of the easiest ways to make a planned gift. Your income won’t be affected, and you can receive significant tax benefits. With the help of your financial advisor, you can include language in your Will specifying what gifts are to be made as part of your estate plan. Donors often make a bequest, because they wish to leave a legacy of hope, education and empowerment to vulnerable children.
I’m not sure what to choose from the gift catalogue — any advice?
Nutan: With nearly 40 items, picking one can be hard. A popular option are our gifts, which multiply in value up to five times. My favourite items are schoolbooks ($35), keep a child safe ($85) and keep a girl in school for a year ($125).
